Gabella Beach

A dash of milk arrived high up into the sky and created the Milky Way, another one dropped down on earth generating the sea lily.
Is there a better way to narrate a legend?
Stretches of golden fine sand, interrupted only by the street sign indicating the city border to Palinuro. 1440 square meters of soft sand dunes in front of the sea offering hospitality to lovers of sun and sea. You may enjoy a tropical tan or jogging near the sea side or even romantic walks during any season of the year. We invite you to contemplate the sea lilies and their timid flowering in the hot season but flowering further due to the mild weather. This is a strong and tenacious plant growing on windblown dunes. Its seeds are enclosed in a corky mass and so enables them to float on the sea currents also for a long time landing then on far beaches. This vigorous and tenacious plant aroused some legends. An ancient Greek myth narrates that the sea lily was generated by the milk of the Goddess Era, wife of Zeus, while she was breastfeeding little Heracles. The small baby suckled her breast in a very voracious way and hurt the Goddess. Not standing the ache she withdrew her breast and a dash of milk arrived into the sky creating the Milky Way, whereas another drop fell onto the earth generating the sea lily.
The beach Gabella keeps another very fascinating natural event, however not often to be seen. This is the nest-building of the Caretta Caretta turtle which is the most common sea turtle of the Mediterranean. After a migration of thousands of kilometers to reproduce, these turtles return to the beaches were they were born. This is an extraordinary ability in finding the exact site again. We are very happy that one of these spots is the Gabella beach and sincerely hope that this place of nest-building will be protected also in future.
